LOS ANGELES, May 27 — Olympic champion Jasmine Camacho-Quinn is set to compete against world champion and world record holder Tobi Amusan in a highly anticipated women’s 100-meter hurdles event at the USATF Los Angeles Grand Prix – World Athletics Continental Tour Gold meeting in Los Angeles today (27).

These two athletes have a history of intense competition, dating back to their collegiate clashes in 2016. Camacho-Quinn currently holds a slight 8-6 advantage over Amusan in their head-to-head meetings in the 100m hurdles. In their most recent encounter at the Weltklasse 2022 meeting in Zurich, Amusan emerged as the winner. She now leads Camacho-Quinn 2-1 in their last three head-to-head battles, including a crucial victory at the World Athletics Championships in Oregon22, where she set the current world record at an astonishing 12.12 seconds.

When considering the current world rankings, Camacho-Quinn currently sits in sixth place with a season-best time of 12.48 seconds. On the other hand, Amusan has a season best of 12.59 seconds, which ranks her as the eighth-fastest athlete in the world for 2023.

However, the competition doesn’t stop with Camacho-Quinn and Amusan. Today’s women’s 100m hurdles field at the USATF Los Angeles Grand Prix also includes a formidable group of American athletes, led by former world record holder Kendra Harrison, who is also the Olympic silver medalist.

Harrison, boasting a time of 12.44 seconds, currently sits in fourth place on the world rankings this season. Alongside her, fellow American athletes Tia Jones, Tonea Marshall, and Alaysha Johnson will be aiming to challenge the favorites and create some upsets. Additionally, Jamaica’s Danielle Williams, the 2015 world champion, will be seeking to improve upon her current season best of 12.74 seconds. She recently recorded a wind-assisted time of 12.38 seconds (+3.5 m/s) for second place behind Camacho-Quinn at the USATF Bermuda Grand Prix last week.
