MANCHESTER (May 21) – Hellen Obiri showcased her exceptional talent once again as she secured victory in the women’s race at the AJ Bell Great Manchester Run for the second consecutive year. The Kenyan athlete broke away from the pack early on and maintained her dominance throughout the event, crossing the finish line with a solid time of 31:14.
Obiri’s quick return to the road comes as a surprise, considering her recent triumph at the Boston Marathon just last month. Despite falling short of her personal best time of 30:15 set in 2022, she exuded composure and control throughout the race, displaying her status as a two-time 5000m world champion and two-time Olympic silver medalist.
Peres Jepchirchir, the Tokyo 2021 Olympic marathon champion from Kenya, claimed second place with a respectable time of 31:59. Great Britain’s Calli Thackery rounded out the top three, finishing the race in 32:51.

Securing the second position, was Scott, who completed the race in 28:31. Stewart McSweyn from Great Britain secured the third spot, finishing with a time of 28:35.
Track legend Sir Mo Farah finished the race in eighth place in 29:11. Farah will end his career at Great North Run in September.
