SAVONA, Italy (23 May) – Dina Asher-Smith, the British sprinter and European champion, is set to make her season debut in the 200 meters at the 2023 Memorial Ottolia in Savona – World Athletics Continental Challenger Tour meeting – on Wednesday, May 24. The Italian Athletics Federation has confirmed her participation.

Asher-Smith kicked off her outdoor season with an impressive performance of 10.98 seconds in the women’s 100m, finishing behind world leader Sha’Carri Richardson of the USA and Shericka Jackson of Jamaica. At the 2023 Memorial Ottolia in Savona on Wednesday, the 2019 world champion will be aiming for a successful debut in the event as she continues to prepare for the World Athletics Championships in Budapest in August.

Joining Asher-Smith in the women’s 200m in Italy will be home favorite and European 4x100m relay bronze medalist Dalia Kaddari of Italy, who will also make her debut in the event after a brief indoor campaign that included a pair of 60m races. Her compatriot Vittoria Fontana will also be looking to break the 23-second barrier for the second time in her career.

On the track, Finland’s Reetta Hurske, the European Indoor 60m hurdles champion, and Hungary’s Luca Kozak, the silver medalist at the 2022 European Outdoor Championships, will face off in the 100m hurdles.

In other events, British sprinters Reece Prescod and Daryll Neita will compete in the women’s 100m, while the men’s 400m hurdles will feature athletes such as Yasmani Copello and Abderrahman Samba. Justyna Swiety-Ersetic will be the headline act in the women’s 400m.
