There was a big disappointment, however, on the eve of the meeting world champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce was forced to withdrew due to an injury. The Jamaican was slated to open her season at the Kip Keino Classic after missing the Botswana Grand Prix due to a family emergency and she was hoping to get her campaign off to a banging start this weekend.
However, the five time world championships 100m champion revealed that she felt some discomfort during her warmup and has decided to pull out of the meet.
Meanwhile, after an impressive performance in the 100m at the Diamond League series opener in Doha, a week ago, American Sha’Carri Richardson will race in the women’s 200m, while home favorites Mary Moraa and Beatrice Chepkoech are also schedule to compete.
Commonwealth Games winner and world leader Muzala Samukonga of Zambia is seeking another victory in the 400m, while 11-time global championship Hammer champion Anita Włodarczyk is set to make her return to competition.
