SEC Outdoor Track and Field Championships Update

BATON ROUGE, La. (May 11) – The competition at the 2023 SEC Outdoor Championships has been halted today as lightning was detected near the Bernie Moore Track Stadium. The action on Day One was forced into a weather delay shortly after the first heat of the men’s 200 meters. Officials made the decision to evacuate the track and ordered spectators to seek shelter as a safety precaution.

The interruption occurred when officials received reports of lightning strikes within an 8-mile radius of the stadium. Concerned for the well-being of the athletes and attendees, the second heat of the men’s 200m race was postponed. Officials are keeping a close eye on the proximity of the lightning detection and have suspended the meet for a minimum of 30 minutes.
