Noah Lyles sizzles to 14.56 for 150m; Grant Holloway dominates 110m hurdles

Noah Lyles, Tamari Davis, and Oblique Seville, Grant Holloway were all among the winners at the 2023 adidas Atlanta City Games.

ATLANTA, May 6 — American athlete Noah Lyles secured a new personal best and the third-fastest 150-meter time on Saturday night, winning the event at the 2023 adidas Atlanta City Games. Lyles clocked in at an impressive 14.56 seconds, putting him ahead of Walter Dix and leaving him trailing behind record holder Usain Bolt (14.35 secs) and Tyson Gay (14.57).

Erriyon Knighton finished in second place with a time of 14.85 seconds in his first competitive appearance in the discipline. Kenyan athlete Ferdinand Omanyala ran a new African record time of 19.89 seconds, beating the old record of 14.99 set by Frankie Fredericks of Namibia in 1993. Antonio Watson of Jamaica finished fourth with a time of 14.93 seconds.

Tamari Davis of USA won the women’s 150m race, clocking in at 16.44 seconds and setting a personal best. She beat Daryll Neita of Great Britain, who finished in 16.48 seconds, while American athlete Gabby Thomas secured third place with a time of 16.50 seconds.

Jamaica’s Oblique Seville claimed victory in the men’s 100m race, finishing in 9.99 seconds. Meanwhile, Aleia Hobbs of USA won the women’s 100m race, clocking in at 10.99 seconds in a closely fought contest.

World champion Grant Holloway posted a new world-leading time of 13.01 seconds to win the men’s 110m hurdles, beating his training Robert Dunning, who ran 13.09 secs. Tia Jones won the women’s 100m hurdles with 12.50 secs, beating former world record holder Kendra Harrison, who ran 12.53 for second.
