Salwa Eid Naser wins 200m/400m double in Miami

Salwa Eid Naser continued her return from a two-year suspension by winning the 200m and 400m double at the Tropical Park Meet #2 in Miami, Florida, on Monday (29).

MIAMI, FL (May 30) — Salwa Eid Naser continued her comeback after two years out of action by securing victories in both the women’s 200m and 400m events at the Tropical Park Meet #2 here in Miami, Florida, as part of the 2023 World Athletics Continental Tour Challenger series.

Continuing her impressive comeback since returning to the sport in February, Naser further solidified her position with a remarkable Memorial Day sprint double. In the 400m, she claimed first place with a time of 50.32 seconds, marking her second triumph in this event after her previous win in Miramar, Fla., on 13 May.

This was her fourth appearance in the 400m race this season, coming just two days after her second-place finish at the USATF Los Angeles Grand Prix, where she clocked 50.27 seconds. Read more: Tropical Park Meet #2 results; Salwa Eid Naser wins double

Fiordaliza Cofil from the Dominican Republic, a finalist in the World Championships, secured second place in the 400m in Miami, with a time of 51.13 seconds, while Stephanie Davis from the USA finished third with a time of 52.83 seconds.

Naser completed her impressive double victory by achieving a season-best time of 22.90 seconds in the 200m event. Additionally, she showcased her versatility by finishing fourth in the 100m with another season-best effort of 11.54 seconds.

In the women’s 200m at the Tropical Park Meet #2, Cofil secured second place with a time of 23.20 seconds, closely followed by Aiyanna Stiverne of Canada with a time of 23.41 seconds.

The women’s 100m saw Maia McCoy from the USA emerge as the winner, clocking in at 11.31 seconds. Cofil took second place with a time of 11.37 seconds, and Jasmine Abrams from Guyana secured third place with a time of 11.47 seconds.
