An athlete tragically died while participating in the Swansea Triathlon on Sunday morning. News broke on Sunday and reported by reliable media outlets, The Guardian and Sky News in the UK, that a man, aged 61, died during the swim stage of a triathlon event.
The triathlete, who remains unnamed, was pronounced dead despite being assisted by emergency services and members at the scene.

According to a statement posted on Facebook by Activity Events Wales, the organization responsible for running the event in collaboration with the University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD), they expressed their heartfelt condolences to the family and confirmed the athlete’s passing during the swim section of the triathlon.
The statement also acknowledged and expressed gratitude for the remarkable efforts of the swim safety team, St John Ambulance, the rapid response team, the police, volunteers, and members of the public who were involved at the scene.
“It is with heavy hearts that we confirm the passing of an athlete during the swim section of today’s triathlon,” the statement said. “Our most sincere condolences go out to the family.
“We would like to thank the incredible efforts of the swim safety team, St John Ambulance, the rapid response team, the police, volunteers and members of the public involved at the scene,” the statement added.
The Welsh Ambulance Service, as reported to Sky News, received a call regarding a medical emergency at 9.15 am in Swansea. They promptly dispatched a rapid response vehicle, an emergency ambulance, and the Emergency Medical Retrieval and Transfer Service to the location. St John Ambulance also provided assistance. As of now, this is all the information that the Welsh Ambulance Service can provide.

Meanwhile, a representative from UWTSD conveyed their sadness at the news of the individual’s passing and extended their deepest condolences to the family and all those affected by this tragic incident. As sponsors of the event, UWTSD expressed their sympathy and support.
The triathlon, which consisted of a 750m swim, a 20km bike ride, and a 5km run, was anticipated to have around 1,500 participants on that day.
