The 26-year-old enters this weekend on the back of personal best 2:08:57 marathon performance in Milan in April and the Italian will be aiming to continue his world championships preparations with another strong performance this weekend.

Among the leading challengers to Crippa for the title in France is Germany’s Nils Voigt, who posted a massive personal best of 27:30.01 in March, improving significantly from the 27:49.04 he ran for a lifetime best in Birmingham in 2021.

Despite not finishing in a 10,000m race in last month, the German remains confident about producing something positive at the 2023 European 10,000m Cup, and event in which he quickly turned his focus to after the setback two weeks ago.
