LAUSANNE, Switzerland (June 29) – Nicola Olyslagers (McDermott) of Australia soared to new heights, setting a world-leading mark of 2.02 meters to claim victory in the women’s “City Event” at the Athletissima Wanda Diamond League meet in Lausanne, Switzerland. The event, held on a platform outside the stadium, witnessed Olyslagers’ exceptional performance that also equaled both the Australian and Oceanian records.

Olyslagers, starting her campaign at 1.87m, displayed remarkable consistency throughout the competition, clearing each height on her first attempt until surpassing the 2.00m mark. – Read more: Start lists for the 2023 Athletissima Lausanne Diamond League

The Olympic silver medalist then conquered 2.02m on her second try, topping the previous world-leading height she held with Yaroslava Mahuchikh of Ukraine. Notably, her achievement also matched the Area record shared with Eleanor Patterson.

Iryna Gerashchenko, the 2021 European silver medalist, demonstrated her exceptional form as well here today by securing second place and tying her personal best of 2.00 meters. Mahuchikh, the World Indoor champion from Ukraine, claimed the third spot with a clearance of 1.97 meters.

In other notable performances, Morgan Lake of Great Britain, a Commonwealth Games silver medalist, cleared 1.94m to secure fourth place. Yulia Yevchenko of Ukraine, Daniela Stanciu of Romania, and Angelina Topić, a 17-year-old from Serbia, all cleared the same height (1.94m).

Nafissatou Thiam, the two-time world and Olympic Heptathlon champion from Belgium, had to settle for eighth place after clearing 1.91m.

Meanwhile, in the Diamond League Qualifiers Standings after three of seven qualification meetings, Iryna Gerashchenko leads the pack with 19 points, closely followed by Nicola Olyslagers with 16 points and Angelina Topic of Serbia with 15 points.
