
Duluth, MN – The organizers of the 2023 Grandma’s Marathon announced the prize money for the event, totaling USD $80,000 for the elite men’s and women’s contestants. In addition, a separate amount of $10,000 was allocated for the masters’ men and women. Elisha Barno and Lauren Hagans emerged as the champions in the individual races for men and women, respectively.
Who won Grandma’s Marathon 2023?
Barno, who clinched his fifth Grandma’s Marathon title, was awarded USD $10,000 for his victory in the men’s race. Notably, this win marked his return to the top of the podium after a four-year streak of wins from 2015 to 2018. As a bonus, he received an additional $2,500 in prize money for achieving a time of 2:09:14, finishing the race in less than 2:10:00.

Hagans earned USD $10,000 for her triumph in the women’s race. Her exceptional time of 2:25:55, achieved in her debut at the Grandma’s Marathon and the 26.2-mile distance, secured her an additional $10,000 in bonus prize money for running sub 2:28.
Is there a prize for winning Grandma’s Marathon?
Regarding the distribution of prize money among the elite races, after the winner, the runner-up received $7,500, followed by $5,000, $4,000, $3,500, $3,000, $2,500, $2,000, $1,500, and $1,000, respectively, from third place through tenth.
In each of the women’s and men’s contests, the top three finishers at age 40+ shared a total of $10,000 equally. The winner was granted $2,500, the second-place finisher received $1,500, and the third-place finisher was awarded $1,000.
Moreover, there is a $500.00 incentive for the 40+ Division finishers who complete the race in under 2:20 for men and 2:40 for women.
