Keira D’Amato clocked a time of 1:06:39 to set a USA half-marathon record at the 2023 Asics Half Marathon in Gold Coast, Australia, on Saturday, 1 July. D’Amato’s time is also the fastest ever recorded by any woman in the half marathon in Australia and shattered Lisa Weightman’s 13-year-old Gold Coast half marathon record mark of 1:09:00.

D’Amato was paced through the race by Australian Olympian Ben St Lawrence and she praised him for doing “an amazing job.”

“I owe so much to Ben, he was so smooth, so consistent, he just did such an amazing job,” she said. “I just can’t believe this.

“I’m just so thankful to be here and as an American I can’t believe how many people said, “go Keira” on the course and every time I heard that I just felt so powerful,” she added.

Her performance in Gold Coast on Saturday saw her break the American record of 1:06:52, set by Emily Sisson in the 2023 Chevron Houston Marathon in Texas, in January.

The time also saw D’Amato, who finished 15th overall, but the top woman in the field, improved on her personal best from 1:07:55 in Hardeeville, South Carolina, in 2021.

In today’s race, she finished two and a half minutes ahead of Australia’s Leanne Pompeani (1:09:07) and Australian Tokyo 2020 Olympian Ellie Pashley, who was third in a time of 1:09:25.

The 38-year-old, who finished 8th in the marathon at the World Championships in Oregon, last summer. She will represent the USA at the World Championship in Budapest in August.
