
Germany’s Niklas Kaul, the 2019 world champion, recorded a total of 8484 points to claim his first victory in the Stadtwerke Ratingen Mehrkampf-Meeting decathlon on Sunday at the World Athletics Combined Events Tour Gold event. Meanwhile, Carolin Schafer tallied a score of 6369 points to win the heptathlon for the third time. Notably, Belgium’s two-time world and Olympic champion Nafissatou Thiam continued her preparations for the World Championships in Budapest by competing in just a few events instead of contesting the full heptathlon.

Sophie Weißenberg of Germany collected second place behind Schafer with a score of 6247 points, while Emma Oosterwegel (Netherlands) finished third with 6209 points.
Kaul, who won the 2022 European Championship, achieved the Olympic standard with his winning score, while beating Spain’s Jorge Ureña, who recorded a personal best with 8381 points for second place, and The Netherlands’ Rik Taam, who also scored a personal best with 8326 points in third place.
