Jemal Yimer and Jesca Chelangat secured the titles in the men’s and women’s 2023 Boilermaker 15K Road Race, which took place on Sunday morning in Utica, New York. Their strong performances earned them well-deserved prize money of $7,000 each.

Representing Ethiopia, Jemal Yimer returned this year to defend his title in the men’s category, crossing the finish line with an impressive time of 42:05.16 to set a new course record. His time was much faster than the 42:38 he clocked to win the title last at the 2022 Boilermaker 15K Road Race.

The second-place position was captured by Kenya’s John Korir, who achieved a remarkable time of 42:12.75. Korir’s stellar performance granted him a prize of $4,000. Charles Langat, also hailing from Kenya, secured third place with a time of 42:27.98, earning a prize of $2,500.

Reid Buchanan, an athlete representing the United States, delivered a commendable performance, finishing in seventh place with a time of 43:42.86. Buchanan emerged as the top American finisher today, receiving a prize of $900, in addition to an extra $3,000.

In the women’s race, Jesca Chelangat from Kenya, wearing bib number 53, triumphed with an exceptional time of 47:30.59 to also set a Boilermaker 15K Road Race event and course record, leaving her competitors trailing behind. Chelangat posted a time today that is faster than the 47:57 course and event record, set in 2010 by Kenya’s Edna Kiplagat.

Chelangat’s impressive performance, finishing 1 minute and 14 seconds ahead of the second-place runner, Sarah Naibei of Kenya, earned her a prize money of $4,000.

Securing the third position was Cynthia Limo from Kenya, a silver medalist in the 2016 Half Marathon World Championships. Limo displayed her exceptional skills, setting a new personal best time of 48:49.53 and claiming a prize of $2,500.

Among the American women, Aliphine Tuliamuk achieved a notable fifth-place finish, completing the race in 49:15.74. Tuliamuk emerged as the top-performing American female athlete, earning a prize of $1,250 for securing fifth place, in addition to an extra $3,000.

The Boilermaker 15K Road Race proved to be an exhilarating event, showcasing the immense talent and fierce competition among the participants. Each runner exhibited their dedication, speed, and endurance, captivating the spectators and leaving an indelible mark on this prestigious race.
