
(July 2, 2023) — Alejandra Ortega matched the Games record while Jose Doctor narrowly missed one as they claimed victories in the women’s and men’s respective 20km Race Walk competitions at the 2023 CAC Games in El Salvador on Sunday (2).
In the women’s competition, Mexico’s Ortega finished with a time of 1:35:43, earning the gold medal and equalling the record established by Guatemala’s Mirna Ortiz in Veracruz, Mexico, in 2014.
Two athletes from Centro Caribe Sports followed closely. María Peinado secured the silver medal, crossing the line at 1:35:59, while her teammate María Peinado finished in the same time.

Jose Doctor emerged as the winner, completing the race in 1:22:35, with his compatriot Noel Chama securing the third-place finish at 1:23:09. Doctor missed breaking the Games record by only 0:02, which was set in 2010 by Mexico’s Eder Sanchez.
María Peinado from Centro Caribe Sports finished behind the Mexican athletes, recording a time of 1:35:59.
