BREDA, Netherlands (July 31) – Dutch track star Femke Bol is gearing up for the World Athletics Championships next month, and she stepped out of her comfort zone again to secure a second-place finish in the women’s 200m at the 2023 Dutch National Track and Field Championships over the weekend.
Bol is keen to enhance her speed as she aims for additional record-breaking times this season in her main event, the 400m hurdles. The European sensation clocked a time of 23.05 seconds into a strong -2.2 m/s headwind, to secure the runner-up spot in the 200m dash on Sunday behind the winner Tasa Jiya, who clinched the national title with a time of 22.77 seconds.

In the preliminary heats in Breda on Saturday, Bol clocked an outdoor personal best of 22.88 seconds (+0.8 m/s) for the second time in her career under sub-23 seconds. She also recorded a time of 22.87 seconds at an indoor meeting in Metz in February.
At 23 years old, Bol had already secured an Olympic bronze medal and a World Athletics Championships silver medal in the 400m hurdles. She is tipped to be the frontrunner for the gold medal in this event at Budapest 2023 next month after reigning world champion and world record holder Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone decided to compete in the 400m.
In other news from the 2023 Dutch National Track and Field Championships, European U23 champion N’ketia Seedo clocked a time of 11.21 seconds to secure her fourth national title.
Meanwhile, Lieke Klaver, who finished fourth in the 400m at the world championships, took third place with a time of 11.36 seconds.
