Andre De Grasse Canada Olympic champion looks on the Olympics 2021

Stockholm, July 2, 2023 – Canadian sprinter and Olympic bronze medalist, Andre De Grasse, was compelled to withdraw from the 2023 BAUHAUS-galan Stockholm Diamond League meeting on Sunday due to a groin injury, marking another setback in his unsettled season.

De Grasse, a two-time Olympic bronze medalist in the men’s 100m, was scheduled to compete in the same event on Sunday. However, the 28-year-old was unable to take his place at the start line after experiencing discomfort in his groin, leading to his decision to withdraw from the meeting.

The inclement weather in Stockholm isn’t favoring the athletes, with several events either postponed or contested under wet and rainy conditions.

This proved challenging for the competitors, including American Olympic champion Valarie Allman, who was unable to register a mark in the women’s discus throw.

The men’s pole vault competition at the 2023 BAUHAUS-galan Stockholm Diamond League meeting, featuring world record holder Mondo Duplantis, has been postponed as a precautionary measure for the safety of the athletes.

Given the inherent challenges of the event, even under optimal conditions, the decision was made in light of the adverse weather conditions currently being experienced in Stockholm, which is even affecting the broadcasters.
