SAN JOSÉ, Costa Rica – Mia Brahe-Pedersen, the American rising sprint star, begins her quest for the sprint double at the 2023 NACAC U23 Championships with the women’s 100 meters on Friday (21) at the esteemed San José National Stadium.
As one of the favorites to clinch the gold medal, the Oregon native and high schooler is set to showcase her prowess as she competes in heat one. Below you will find the complete start list and heats for both races this morning.
Mia Brahe-Pedersen gold medal favorite?
Brahe-Pedersen, a finalist in both sprint events at the 2023 USATF Outdoor Championships earlier this month, owns a quality personal best time of 11.00 seconds, making her the fastest among all entrants here in San José.

The 17-year-old young talent has had a demanding season in 2023, which features three notable performances (11.05, 11.09, and 11.08) at the U.S. Championships.
As she gears up for the 2023 NACAC U23 Championships, Brahe-Pedersen aims to secure her first major championship title after finishing fourth in the 200m at the 2022 U20 World Athletics Championships in Cali.
In her opening heat on Friday, the Lake Oswego high school junior will face stiff competition from Beyonce Defreitas of the British Virgin Islands and Marie-Eloise Leclair representing Canada.
Meanwhile, in heat two, Trinidad and Tobago’s Leah Bertrand, another strong contender for the gold medal, is expected to emerge as the favorite to advance to the final from this section.
Bertrand, who represented the Ohio State Buckeyes during the collegiate schedule this season and secured a sixth-place finish at the 2023 CAC Games in El Salvador earlier this month, is set to face competition from Camille Rutherford of the Bahamas and Ashantai Bollers of Canada.
