CHORZÓW, Poland (July 16) — American sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson clinched a big victory over her Jamaican rival and world leader Shericka Jackson in the women’s 100m at the Wanda Diamond League meeting in Silesia on Sunday.
Richardson, who was slightly behind Jamaica’s Shericka Jackson at the halfway mark on Sunday, stayed relaxed in the closing meters and overtook the Jamaican champion to secure the win with a time of 10.76 seconds. Jackson, the world leader, with 10.65 seconds, finished a close second today with a time of 10.78 seconds.

Sha’Carri Richardson vs. Shericka Jackson head-to-head record
Today’s win in Poland ties Richardson’s head-to-head series with Jackson at 3-3. Notably, Sha’Carri has won the last two races, including a victory over Shericka in Doha at the opening Diamond League meeting in May.
“It was an amazing race, I am really having fun,” a delighted Richardson said. “The 10.76 – I love the time. I put a great race together. This was a great competition, it was amazing. I executed correctly.”
Delighted Ewa Swoboda Praised Energetic Sha’Carri
Meanwhile, home favorite Ewa Swoboda of Poland was filled with emotions after she finished third and clocked a personal best time of 10.94 seconds, breaking the 11-second barrier for the first time in her career.
“I have waited for this for a long time, and I finally got it,” said Swoboda. My coach said we got the perfect conditions today, the sort that may not happen again. I am all sweaty, and tired, but happy.
“Sha’Carri carried a lot of positive energy into the call room, and I was not even stressed before the race,” the Pole added.
USA’s Twanisha Terry followed home in fourth place with a season-best time of 10.99 seconds, while Daryll Neita of Great Britain finished fifth with a time of 11.01 seconds.
The meeting record of 10.66 secs is being held by Jamaica’s Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce.
The win at the 2023 Silesia Diamond League meeting today for Sha’Carri Richardson is a strong statement to the rest of the world that the American will be going for the gold medal at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest in August.
