KINGSTON, Jamaica (July 8) — Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Shericka Jackson both advanced comfortably to the final of the women’s 200m dash at the Jamaica Track and Field Championships on Day three on Saturday (8).
Making her first appearance of the season after a knee injury scare earlier this year, Fraser-Pryce clocked an impressive 22.39 seconds to win the second semifinal heat today, and the reigning world 100m champion said afterwards that although she’s still not 100 percent, she’s feeling good.
“I’m really glad to open my season, finally,” Fraser-Pryce told TVJ Sports in her post-race interview. “I have had a couple of setbacks, but it is part of the journey. I am feeling good.”

Lanae-Tava Thomas, who was part of the University of Texas winning team during the collegiate season, ran 22.46secs for second place behind Fraser-Pryce, while Natasha Morrison, who finished third in the 100m on Friday evening, clocked 22.86secs to take second place.
Shericka Jackson Comfortable In Her Race
Meanwhile, Shericka Jackson posted a time of 22.88secs (-1.4 m/s) for second place in the first semifinal heat behind the 100m runner-up Shashalee Forbes, who clocked 22.84secs and just took the win on the line. Natalliah Whyte posted 23.00 for third and also advanced to the final.
Rounding out the qualifiers were Kevona Davis, who did 22.94secs to win the third semifinal heat comfortably, and Jodean Williams, who ran 23.07secs for second place in the same heat.
Olympic champion Elaine Thompson-Herah, who finished fifth in the 100m, was a non-starter for the semifinals of the women’s 200m, ultimately ending her chances of making the Jamaican team in an individual event.
In the meantime, Rasheed Dwyer clocked the fastest time of the round with 20.25secs to win his heat, while defending Andrew Hudson clocked an impressive 20.31secs to cruise into the final while Yohan Blake was the other heat winner with a time of 20.35secs.
