Will Sumner of Georgia in the men's 800m race

Reigning NCAA champion Will Sumner will be competing in the men’s 800m field at the NACAC U23 Championships 2023, in San José, Costa Rica, from 21-23 July. Sumner recently won the collegiate title in June with a personal best time of 1:44.26.

However, despite his success, he finished 5th at the USATF Outdoor Championships and did not qualify for the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary, in August.

Sumner, who recently turned professional and signed with Adidas, will be joined by another American athlete, Sean Dolan from Villanova, who achieved a personal best time of 1:46.10 at the Harry Jerome Track Classic on 14 July.

Dolan is also considered a strong contender for a medal at the NACAC U23 Championships. Although Sumner did not qualify for the World Athletics Championships, he has had an impressive season with multiple times faster than 1:47.00, in addition to his personal best time

His personal best currently ranks as the 11th fastest among performers in 2023.

Abdullahi Hassan, representing Canada, will also be competing in the men’s 800m race. Hassan, who competed for Wisconsin this season, finished fourth at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in June
He has a personal best time of 1:46.16 from 2021 and has clocked 1:46.25 so far this year.
