BUDAPEST (August 3) – Double Olympic champion Sifan Hassan and triple European titleholder Femke Bol are the leading athletes named in the Netherlands team and will compete in multiple events at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest from Aug. 19-27.

Hassan, winner of two golds and a bronze at last year’s Tokyo Games, will compete in the 1,500 metres, 5,000m and 10,000m in the Hungarian capital. – Entry standards for the World Athletics Championships 2023

The talented 29-year-old already owns two world titles, two global bronzes and holds the world indoor 1,500m title from 2016 as well as the European indoor 1,500m from 2015.

Bol, 22, will be aiming to claim her first world title in the 400 metres hurdles after smashing her own European record with a time of 51.45 seconds earlier this season.

As well as winning world and European silvers over the hurdles, Bol took 400m hurdles bronze in Tokyo last year. She has also won European golds at 400m and 400m hurdles.

As in the last two global championships, Femke Bol has again been selected for the women’s and mixed 4x400m relay squads in Budapest, adding to her schedule.

Meanwhile, Lieke Klaver, who finished fourth in the 400m at the 2022 World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon, last summer, is also entered in that event in Budapest, while Florida Gators track and field standout Alida van Daalen will compete in the women’s shot put, alongside Jessica Schilder.
