Florida cross country schedule women's team

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (29 August) — The Florida Gators women’s cross country squad is projected to lead the pack, while the men’s team is anticipated to land in the eighth spot, according to the Southeastern Conference (SEC) 2023 Cross Country Preseason Coaches’ Poll released Tuesday.

This isn’t the first time the women’s team has garnered such attention. Since the poll’s inception in 2007, they’ve been favored to clinch the top spot on three occasions: 2009, 2010, and 2011.

Veterans on the Track:

Last year, the women’s team clinched the fifth spot at the SEC Championships. The spotlight was on Parker Valby, who sprinted to victory in the women’s SEC individual title with a record-breaking 6K time of 18:25.87 at the championship event.

The Gators have managed to hold onto a significant number of athletes with SEC Championships experience, including Caroline Bauer, Olivia Jones, Stephanie Ormsby, Rylee Pustilnik, Lucinda Rourke, Jordan Shapiro, Vasileia Spyrou, and Liina Winborn.

Fresh Faces:

Mazza-Downie and Thorner, both hailing from the University of New Mexico, secured first and sixth positions, respectively at the 2022 Mountain West Cross Country Championships.

Wilson, another former Alabama athlete, made her mark by finishing among the top-40 at the SEC Championships in 2020.

The Gators are also introducing a trio of freshmen: Sayla Donnelley, Kate Drummond, and Haley Thornton.
