
MAYAGÜEZ, Puerto Rico, August 5 — Gabriel Alvarado of Nicaragua clinched the gold medal in the men’s 10,000m Race Walk at the 2023 Pan American U20 Championships as the track and field schedule continues on Saturday. He won with a time of 43:04.46.

The 18-year-old engaged in a close encounter for the majority of the race before surging ahead with Colombia’s Jesus Ramirez in the final 200 meters. The two athletes then engaged in an exhilarating battle in the closing 80 meters, but Alvarado managed to maintain his form and pull away for the win.
Ramirez secured the silver medal with a time of 43:18.31, while the bronze went to Hugo Reyes Vera of Mexico, who finished in 43:43.15.
USA’s representatives, Ryan Allen and Clayton Stoil, finished in sixth and seventh places, respectively, with times of 50:01.52 and 52:13.00 and missed out on winning a medal.
The thrilling early morning race paved the way for what will be another exciting day of the ongoing track and field schedule at the 2023 Pan American U20 Championships.
