MAYAGÜEZ, Puerto Rico, (August 5) — The United States and Jamaica are set to vie for gold in the women’s and men’s 4x100m relay races at the 2023 Pan American U20 Championships. The races will close out the second-day schedule on Saturday evening, and take place at the Jose A. Figueroa Freire Stadium in Puerto Rico.
Jamaica, USA, and Brazil are favorites in the men’s 4x100m relay
In the men’s relay, Jamaica and Brazil are entering the race with impressive sub-40-second seeded times. Argentina is also a strong contender, with a time that is not too far off the 39-second mark.

However, despite not having a seeded time, the USA is anticipated to deliver a swift performance tonight. The team, which is led by 100m champion Tyler Azcano and fourth-place finisher Cameron Tarver, comes in with a strong quartet and should easily break 40 seconds.
Perhaps the favorite, though, is Jamaica, which team features notable athletes such as the World U20 silver medal winner Bouwahjgie Nkrumie, and the silver medalist at these Pan American u20 Championships.
Fellow 100m finalist Jeevan Newby, plus De Andre Daley, who has run as fast as 10.08 seconds this season, are also part of the team setup.
The home team, Puerto Rico, will compete from lane one and will be led by Canales Correa, the bronze medalist in the 100m final.
USA to beat Jamacia in women’s 4x100m relay?
In the women’s 4x100m relay, the USA and Jamaica are again the leading contenders for the gold medal.
Jamaica, starting from lane five, will be led by 100m champion Alana Reid, but the USA, with a well-rounded team, is favored to win gold.
The American team boasts 100m silver and bronze medalists, Kaila Jackson and Camryn Dickson. They will be joined by the fastest U20 runner in the world this year in the 100m, Shawnti Jackson, as well as Elise Cooper, Laila Hackett, and Laila Campbell.

- Men’s 4x100m Relay: Brazil is the fastest time with 39.80, followed by Jamaica at 39.68. However, do not count out the United States, while Puerto Rico will be hoping to thrill the home supporters.
- Women’s 4x100m Relay: Brazil leads with a time of 44.81 on the seeded sheet. However, the United States is definitely the favorite to win the gold medal, while Jamacia is a strong candidate if the Americans slip up on the changes.
