BUDAPEST, Hungary (August 18) — Two-time defending champion and world record holder Faith Kipyegon begins her quest to win another double when she lines in the heats of the Women’s 1500m at the World Athletics Championships 2023 on Saturday morning’s Day 1 here in Budapest.
Kipyegon, who won gold in 2017 and 2022, enters the championships with a blistering 3:49.11 world record time and the Kenyan star will start as the favorite to advance easily from the second heat of the competition.

Meanwhile, European champion Laura Muir of Great Britain and Dutch 2019 world champion Sifan Hassan are both featuring from heat one and they are also expected to make their mark. Fans should expect them to also advance comfortably to the semifinals.
Other notable athletes who are anticipated to progress smoothly to the semis of the women’s 1500m include Ethiopians Diribe Welteji, and Birke Haylom, Australia’s Jessica Hull, Ireland’s Ciara Mageean, and the USA’s trio of Nikki Hiltz, Cory McGee, and Sinclaire Johnson.
