Joshua Cheptegei of Uganda reacts after winning gold in the Men's 10,000m

The following are the World Athletics Championships results on Day 2 from finals-only events on Sunday, 20 August. Noah Lyles, Joshua Cheptegei, and Katarina Johnson-Thompson were among the gold medal winners on the second day here in Budapest.

USA’s Lyles clocked a world-leading 9.83 seconds to win the men’s 100m title, defeating World U20 champion Letsile Tebogo of Botswana, who clocked 9.88 for the silver and Britain’s Zharnel Hughes (9.88).

Meanwhile, Joshua Cheptegei won his third successive world 10,000m title after the Uganda runner powered home in the final 100m to clock 27:51.42 and defeated the fast-finishing Kenyan, Daniel Simiu Ebenyo, who pipped Ethiopia’s Selemon Barega on the line to claim the silver medal in 27:52.60.

Elsewhere, Britain’s Katarina Johnson-Thompson regained her world heptathlon title, scoring 6740 points to beat USA’s Anna Hall by 20 points, while Canada’s Ethan Katzberg surprised the field to win the men’s Hammer gold with 81.25 meters, Serbia’s jump a massive Ivana Vuleta 7.14 meters to win the women’s long jump gold and Spain’s María Pérez clocked 1:26:51 to win the women’s 20km race walk.
