World champions set for Xiamen Diamond League meeting

XIAMEN, China — The Xiamen Diamond League is set to dazzle fans in Xiamen this Saturday, marking its grand return to Chinese soil for the first time since 2019. The spotlight will be on eight reigning gold medallists from the recently concluded World Athletics Championships in Budapest, including the likes of Marco Arop, Yaroslava Mahuchikh, and Soufiane El Bakkali.

A staggering 19 medalists from the global championships are slated to continue their quest for Diamond League glory in this inaugural Xiamen meet.

Among them is world track and field champion women’s high jump winner and Ukraine sensation, Mahuchikh, who will be aiming to defend her Diamond Trophy next month. She will face Eleanor Patterson in Xiamen.

Joining her are world champions Soufiane El /, who dominated the 3000m steeplechase, Grant Holloway in the 110m hurdles, Ivana Vuleta in the long jump, and Marileidy Paulino, who clinched gold in the 400m.

Adding to the star-studded lineup are long jump maestro Hugues Fabrice Zango, 800m champion Marco Arop, and the unexpected discus victor, Laulauga Tausaga. Together, they complete the ensemble of eight world champions set to compete in Xiamen.

An additional 11 silver and bronze medalists from Budapest will also be vying for invaluable Diamond League points.

The Xiamen Diamond League showdown is the 12th meeting of the Wanda Diamond League season. As the series nears its climax, athletes will be keen to accumulate points, setting their sights on qualifying for the grand finale in Eugene, scheduled for September 16-17th.
