Christian Coleman wins the 100m Wanda Diamond League Xiamen results

XIAMEN, China (02 September) — USA’s Christian Coleman won a very close men’s 100m dash over Jamaica’s Kishane Thompson here at the 2023 Xiamen Wanda Diamond League meeting at Egret Stadium. Coleman, a finalist at the just concluded World Athletics Championships in Budapest, stopped the clock at a blistering 9.83-second to equal the world lead.

The day’s main program started with a thrilling battle in the men’s 400m, and the excitement continued in the men’s 100m as 10 men stepped up to the start line.

After Jamaica’s Ackeem Blake tumbled over with just a few steps, Coleman, who got off a very strong start, built a sizable lead and then held off the fast-finishing Kishane Thompson, who crossed at 9.85 seconds and set a personal best.

USA’s 2022 world champion, Fred Kerley, the current leader in the Diamond League Qualifiers with 29 points, finished third with a time of 9.96 seconds, while his countrymen Brandon Carnes and Marvin Bracy-Williams finished fourth and fifth, respectively, with times of 10.01 and 10.02 seconds.

Yohan Blake of Jamaica, a veteran in the field, and the 2011 world champion, finished sixth with a time of 10.04 seconds.

The Current Diamond League Standings

The Diamond League Qualifiers after the allotted seven competitions see Fred Kerley leading with 29 points, followed closely by Kenya’s Ferdinand Omanyala and South Africa’s Akani Simbine, both with 28 points. Yohan Blake is also in the top five with 22 points.
