Final Decastar 2023 standings: wins for Gletty and Oosterwegel

The final Decastar 2023 standings saw defending champion Emma Oosterwegel successfully retaining her heptathlon title in Talence, while Makenson Gletty set a new personal best to win the decathlon. Oosterwegel finished the year as the overall leader in the World Athletics Combined Events Tour standings.

(Sept. 25) — Emma Oosterwegel successfully defended her heptathlon title at the Decastar 2023 meeting in Talence, while Makenson Gletty improved his personal to win the decathlon at the final World Athletics Combined Events Tour Gold event of the year on Sunday (24).

On the women’s side, Dutch heptathlete and Olympic bronze medalist Emma Oosterwegel tallied a season’s best of 6495 points to close out her campaign on a winning note and fourth on this year’s world list.

Her victory on Sunday also moved her into the overall lead in the World Athletics Combined Events Tour standings.

Switzerland’s Annik Kalin secured second place with 6390pts and USA’s Taliyah Brooks held out for third place with 6181pts.

Meanwhile, Frenchman Makenson Gletty won the decathlon title with 8443 points, adding 164 points to his personal best at the French championships in July.

Germany’s Manuel Eitel finished second with 8193, and Grenada’s defending champion Lindon Victor held on to third place with 7980.
