Badger Classic - Wisconsin women's cross country team at the start line

MADISON, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin men’s cross country team is set to commence its 2023 season with the Badger Classic, a highly anticipated event featuring top teams from the Big Ten and beyond. The race will take place on Saturday at the Zimmer Championship Course, with the men’s 8-kilometer event starting at 10:30 A.M., followed by the women’s 5-kilometer race at 11:10 A.M.

Free Admission, Limited Parking

Spectators can enjoy the event free of charge, but parking restrictions are in place. On-site parking will not be available, and parking is prohibited on nearby County Highways. Violators may face ticketing and towing.

Alternative parking is available at Sugar Creek Elementary School in Verona, with free shuttle services starting at 9 A.M.

  • Defending the Throne: The Badgers aim for their sixth consecutive Big Ten title and 54th in program history. They also seek to defend their Great Lakes regional title, which they won last season.
  • Leaders of the Pack: The Badgers are currently ranked No. 1 in the Great Lakes Regional rankings and No. 5 nationally, the highest among Big Ten programs.

Star Athletes to Watch

All-American athletes Bob Liking and Jackson Sharp are back for another season. Liking has clinched back-to-back individual Big Ten titles, while Sharp was named the Big Ten Men’s Cross Country Athlete of the Year in 2022.

Upcoming Events

The team’s next race will be the Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational in Chicago, Illinois, hosted by Loyola Chicago. The men’s race will begin at 1 P.M. at the Sydney R. Marovitz Golf Course.
