SYDNEY, Australia — The 2023 Sydney Marathon, presented by ASICS and recognized as a World Athletics Elite Platinum Label road race, is shaping up to be the fastest marathon ever assembled on Australian soil. Scheduled for this Sunday (17), the event boasts a star-studded lineup featuring the likes of Gabriel Geay, Moses Kibet, Angela Tanui, and Judith Korir.
The 2023 Sydney Marathon is broadcasting live on Channel 10 for Australian viewers from 7:00 a.m. local time. Kenya’s 2022 World Championships silver medalist and Paris Marathon champion, Judith Korir, is set to make her Australian debut. She will be facing six other sub-2:22 women, including her compatriot Angela Tanui, who won the Amsterdam Marathon in 2021 with a time of 2:17:57.
On the men’s side, Tanzanian record-holder Gabriel Geay leads the pack with a personal best of 2:03:00. Moses Kibet, who won last year’s Sydney Marathon, will also be a strong contender. The field features a total of nine sub-2:06 men, promising an intensely competitive race.
Ahead of the 2023 Sydney Marathon
The 2023 Sydney Marathon is aiming to become a candidate race for the Abbott World Marathon Majors (AbbottWMM). The race is perhaps the largest marathon ever held in Australia. The race will feature a scenic course that takes in some of Sydney’s most spectacular and historic landmarks, including the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Opera House.
