AKRON, OH (Sept. 30) — Dylan Garritano and Joanna Line secured individual titles in the men’s and women’s races at the 2023 FirstEnergy Akron Marathon in Akron, on Saturday morning (30). Garritano clocked 2:25:06, and Line crossed the finish line at 2:52:01 for their command wins and collected USD $2,500 each.

In the men’s race, Garritano, who finished second in the 2022 FirstEnergy Akron Marathon, took control of the contest in the latter stages after Ethan Cannon had led for most of the race.

Breaking away with about four miles left, Garritano, who sat behind Cannon for most of the race, finally surged ahead to win the title by 2:56 minutes.

Cannon, who crossed the halfway point at 1:11:23 to Garritano’s 1:11:52, wasn’t able to maintain his lead and finished second in the end at a time of 2:28:02. Charles Smogoleski completed the podium spots with 2:29:12.

Meanwhile, Joanna Line, 35, took over the women’s race before the halfway mark and was not challenged en route to breaking the tape at 2:52:01 for the victory.

Christina Johnston, 43, was second with a time of 2:54:34, while 28-year-old Ashley Letteney clocked 3:01:15 for third place.
