USA’s Christian Allen finished second today at the Vertical Nasego, as the Valsir Mountain Running World Cup continued in Casto, Italy, on Saturday (2), while Andrea Mayr won the Vertical Nasego in a course record.

After a brief break, the Valsir Mountain Running World Cup returned to Italy for the first day of a full weekend, and mountain running fans enjoyed some quality performances in the first of a double-header at the Vertical Nasego, a 4.3km Vertical Nasego course with 1000m of ascent.

While Andrea Mayr and Patrick Kipngeno retained their respective Vertical Nasego titles today, Christian Allen also delivered a strong performance to take second place in the men’s event.

Kenya’s Kipngeno dominated the race on his way to winning with a time of 34 minutes and 25 seconds, with Allen taking second place with 35:01, and Great Britain’s Joe Steward just seven seconds behind the runner-up in third place at 35:08.

Meanwhile, Andrea Mayr improved her course record to 38 minutes and 6 seconds on her way to sealing the women’s Vertical Nasego title in dominating fashion.

The Austrian, who set the course record of 38:39 in 2019, also won in 2021 and 2022 and was already writing the headlines way before the start of today’s event.

Kenya’s Philaries Kisang clocked 40:27 for second place, third went to Great Britain’s Scout Adkin with 40:35, while Finland’s Susanna Saapunki (41:23) and USA’s Anna Gibson (42:15) completed the top five finishers.

The action returns on on Sunday, 3, September at the Trofeo Nasego for both men and women. The races start at 9.30am. Click here to see the full programme.
