William Amponsah wins Live in Lou Classic Men’s Gold 8k with 23:08

William Amponsah ran 23:08.6 to win the Men's Gold 8k race at the 2023 Live in Lou Classic on Saturday. Grand Valley State wins the team title with 104pts.

Louisville, KY (Sept. 30) — William Amponsah of West Texas A&M clinched the individual title in the Men’s Gold 8k race at the 2023 Live in Lou Classic, recording a time of 23:08.6 on Saturday morning. Amponsah seized the lead after the halfway point and clocked a swift time to secure victory by a significant margin at E.P. “Tom” Sawyer Park.

Jason Bowers of ETSU claimed second place, finishing in 23:14.3, while Adams State’s Romain Legendre took third with a time of 23:30.4. Baidy Ba of Kent State (23:43.0) and Adam Swanson of Eastern Illinois (23:48.9) rounded out the top five finishers.

In team competition, Grand Valley State emerged as the men’s champion, scoring 104 points. The team placed five runners in the top 30, including two in the top 20 –Andrew Hylen, who finished 14th in 24:03.6, and Elias Bergman, who came in 15th with a time of 24:05.

Adams State secured second place in the men’s team standings with 105 points, followed by Purdue with 160 points. West Texas A&M scored 164 points to take fourth place, while North Central rounded out the top five with 191 points.
