BYU’s Carmen Alder Leads Women’s Cross Country Team to Victory at XC23 Pre-Nationals

BYU's Carmen Alder won the women’s Blue 6k race at the XC23 College and Open Pre-Nationals and BYU won the team title on Saturday morning.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (OCT. 14) – BYU’s Carmen Alder delivered a commanding performance in the women’s Blue 6k race at the XC23 College and Open Pre-Nationals on Saturday morning, leading the No. 6 Cougars to a team title with a mere 32 points.

Alder completed the course in 19:36.2, outpacing Oregon’s Maddy Elmore by nearly 11 seconds, who finished second with a time of 19:47.0.

The Cougars showcased their depth, placing all five scoring runners in the top 10. Jenna Hutchins clocked 19:58.3 for fifth place, followed by Aubrey Frentheway with 20:00.6 for seventh. Lexy Halladay-Lowry and Riley Chamberlain rounded out BYU’s scorers, posting times of 20:04.0 and 20:06.0 for ninth and 10th places, respectively.

Arkansas freshman Paityn Noe made her presence felt, finishing third with a time of 19:49.6. Virginia’s Margot Appleton was the top performer for the host team, securing fourth place with a time of 19:55.6.

In the team competition, BYU’s 32 points were well ahead of No. 19 Arkansas, who finished second with 90 points. They were followed by No. 7 Virginia with 104 points, No. 17 Oregon with 117, and Tennessee with 135.

In the women’s Orange 6k event, Josephine Wanjiku of Kansas State took the top spot, completing the course in 20:37.3.
