Gudrun Hallgrimsdottir of VCU won the women’s Hammer Throw competition at the Texas Relays 2024 in Austin, on Thursday (28). The junior thrower tossed the implement out to 68.40 meters (224-5) in the third round to secure the victory and set a new VCU school record.

Hallgrimsdottir’s performance bettered her previous personal best and school record in the women’s hammer of 67.01m, set last week at the Virginia Opener in Charlottesville.

At the Texas Relays on Thursday, the Iceland national opened the competition with a mark of 61.68m before improving the effort to 65.29m in the second round. The junior also had marks of 65.88m and 67.17m in the fourth and sixth rounds, respectively.

Meanwhile, Elisabet Rut Runarsdottir of Texas State finished second to Hallgrimsdottir with an effort of 66.85m (219-4), achieved in the fourth round, while the podium places were completed by Kassidy Gallagher of Oklahoma, whose effort of 64.72m (212-4) in the second round, secured third place.
