World Athletics Cross Country Championships 2024

Jacob Kiplimo and a Kenyan sweep of the women’s race, led by Beatrice Chebet, highlighted the 45th World Athletics Cross Country Championships 2024 held at Park of Friendship in Beograd, Serbia, on Saturday (30).

Uganda’s Kiplimo raced away with the senior men’s title, posting a time of 28:09 on his way to retaining his senior men’s title, and joined an illustrious list of athletes to have successfully defended a world cross-country crown. Berihu Aregawi of Ethiopia followed his home in 28:12 for the silver medal, while Kenya’s Benson Kiplangat earned the bronze medal at 28:14.

Meanwhile, Kenya’s Beatrice Chebet also successfully defended her senior women’s title and became the first senior woman to win the title back-to-back since Tirunesh Dibaba in 2006. She pulled away from her fellow compatriots to win in 31:05. Teammates Lilian Kasait Rengeruk (31:08) and Margaret Chelimo Kipkemboi (31:09) finished with the silver and bronze, respectively.

Elsewhere, Samuel Kibathi of Kenya secured gold in the U20 men’s race with a time of 22:40, while the U20 women’s title went to Marta Alemayo of Ethiopia, with a time of 19:28.
