Florida Gators Track and Field Set for 2024 Bryan Clay Invitational

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — A group of six Florida Track & Field distance runners are set to travel to California to participate in the Bryan Clay Invitational, hosted by Azusa Pacific University, from Thursday through Saturday.

The six athletes entered in this weekend’s competition are Flomena Asekol, Parvej Khan, Amelia Mazza-Downie, Elise Thorner, Parker Valby and Allison Wilson.

Asekol, Khan and Wilson all made their 2024 outdoor debut at the Pepsi Florida Relays two weeks ago, all setting personal records in their respective events. Asekol recorded the sixth-best 800-meter time in school history at 2:2.83 seconds. Khan added his name to the UF all-time top 10 list in the 800 at No. 4 with a time of 1:46.12.

Wilson set a personal record in the 1,500, finishing in 4:27.84 — 14 seconds faster than her previous best.

Mazza-Downie, Thorner and Valby last competed during the indoor season. Mazza-Downie’s last appearance came at the SEC Indoor Championship, where she earned a bronze medal in the 5,000.

Thorner was part of the Florida women’s distance medley relay team that took home first place in the SEC and third place in the NCAA.

In Valby’s most recent competition, she was crowned the NCAA champion in the 3,000 and 5,000 and was named the USTFCCCA NCAA Division I Women’s Athlete of the Year for the 2024 indoor season.

With three outdoor meets completed, the Gators hold the No. 2 (men) and No. 12 (women) rankings in the latest USTFCCCA NCAA Division I Outdoor Coaches’ Poll.
