HONOLULU (13-Dec) — Sinclaire Johnson won the 2025 Kalakaua Merrie Mile Elite with a promising performance of 4:21, beating Nikki Hiltz and Josh Hoey in a unique gender chase format road race in Hawaii.

Sinclaire Johnson crossed the finish line first at Saturday’s Kalakaua Merrie Mile Elite race in Hawaii. The 27-year-old, who entered the race with a personal best of 4:27, smashed that commandingly, finishing with her final time of 4:21 in the unique road racing event on Saturday.

The race featured a gender chase format where female runners started 31 seconds ahead of male competitors. The overall winner was determined by who reached the finish line first, regardless of gender.
Johnson held off a strong challenge from fellow American Nikki Hiltz, who finished second with a time of 4:24.
In the meantime, Josh Hoey posted the fastest men’s time overall on the day at 3:55 but finished third overall. The 26-year-old started 31 seconds behind the women and couldn’t make up enough ground.
Susan Ejore-Sanders placed fourth overall and section among the women with a 4:26 clocking, while Hobbs Kessler took fifth place overall with a 3:56 mile. The 22-year-old ran one second slower than Hoey in the men’s division.
