2025 Taipei Marathon Results: Kenya’s Bethwel Kibet and Ethiopia’s Gadise Mulu Take Titles

Bethwel Kibet of Kenya won the men’s race at the 2025 Taipei Marathon on Sunday, December 21, finishing in two hours, nine minutes, and thirty-one seconds. Gadise Mulu of Ethiopia won the women’s title and defeated a pair of Olympians on her way to the crown at the World Athletics Label Road Gold Race in Taipei City, Taiwan.

Bethwel Kibet Secures Men’s Title

In the men’s race, Kibet, 34, running the Taipei Marathon for the first time, held off fellow Kenyan Jonathan Samanayo Korir, who finished second in 2:09:51 in his first race over this distance.

Wilfred Kirwa Kigen took third place with a time of 2:10:30, completing an all-Kenyan podium. Kigen had finished second at the 2023 Taipei Marathon with a slower time of 2:11:59, making this year’s performance an improvement for the returning competitor.

Ethiopian runners claimed the final two top-five positions. Tafese Delelegn finished fourth in 2:11:04, recording his best time of the season, while Aredom Degefa, the 2018 Taipei Marathon champion, placed fifth in 2:11:14.

Gadise Mulu Wins Women’s Race

Gadise Mulu of Ethiopia won the women’s race in 2:24:17. The 28-year-old, who competed in her fourth marathon of 2025, is currently ranked 38th in the world for women’s marathon runners. She defeated two Olympic veterans to claim the title.

Tirfi Tsegaye, also from Ethiopia, finished second in 2:24:49, achieving her best time of the season. Tsegaye placed fourth at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro and has won both the Berlin Marathon and Tokyo Marathon in 2014.

Volha Mazuronak of Belarus took third place with a time of 2:29:39. Mazuronak won the European Championships 10,000-meter race in 2018 and has competed in multiple Olympic Games, finishing fifth in both 2016 and 2021. She also placed fifth at the 2019 World Championships in Doha, Qatar.
