NEW YORK (27 December) — Olympic gold medalist Quincy Wilson ran the fastest 300 meters of his career at the U.S. Marine Corps Holiday Classic on Saturday at The Armory in New York. The Bullis School senior from Maryland clocked 32.94 seconds to win the boys invitational race and break the meet record by nearly a full second.
Wilson’s performance improved his previous personal best of 33.11 seconds and smashed the old meet record of 33.76. His teammate Cameron Homer also ran faster than the old record, finishing second in 33.30 seconds for his own lifetime best. The race produced personal records for the top five finishers.
Behind the two Bullis teammates, Aidan Peterkin of Elmont High School in New York took third place in 33.89 seconds. Nathaniel Johnson from John Jay East Fishkill in New York won heat three with 34.34, good for fourth overall. Aaron Rich of Lyman Hall in Connecticut rounded out the top five with 34.79 after winning heat two.
Wilson earned his Olympic gold medal as part of the United States 4x400m relay team at the Paris Games last summer. At just 17 years old, he became the youngest American male track and field athlete to compete at the Olympics. His latest performance continues his strong early indoor season.
The girls’ 300m also produced a meeting record with Bullis-MD sprinter Mya Arrendell clocking 37.80 seconds to win the event and break the old meet record of 38.19 seconds. Her Bullis School teammate, Kennedy Brown, was also below the old record, clocking in at 38.12 for second place.
Meanwhile, Wilson has also been entered in the invitational 200 meters later at the same meet, which would mark his first time running that distance this indoor season.
The University of Maryland committed sprinter is coming off an impressive showing at the Jim Mitchell Invitational a week ago, where he posted a personal best in the 55m and a fast 500m time.
