The following are selected results from the 2025 SPAR European Cross Country Championships. The senior women’s race was comfortably won by the defending champion, while the men’s senior race had a thrilling finish.
On the women’s side, Italy’s Nadia Battocletti won her second consecutive title at the 2025 SPAR European Cross Country Championships in Lagoa, Portugal, on Sunday (14). The Olympic and world medallist finished the senior women’s race in 24:52.
After running in a small pack, Battocletti pulled away from the field and maintained her lead throughout the race to add to her list of accolades. Great Britain’s Megan Keith finished second in 25:07. Turkey’s Yasemin Can, a multiple European cross country champion, took third place in 25:13.

In the meantime, Spain’s Thierry Ndikumwenayo captured the men’s senior title with a time of 22:05. The bronze medallist from last year’s championships moved up two spots this season.
France’s Jimmy Gressier, who entered the championships as the favorite, took silver in 22:08 after stumbling on the final bend and losing ground heading to the finish line. The world 10,000m champion recovered to hold onto second place. Dominic Lokinyomo Lobalu of Switzerland earned bronze in 22:23.
Keith broke away from Can in the final stretch of the women’s race to secure the silver medal. The British runner finished 15 seconds ahead of Battocletti but could not close the gap on the Italian champion.
The men’s race came down to a sprint finish. Scott Beattie of Great Britain finished fourth in 22:23, the same time as Lobalu. Ireland’s Jack O’Leary rounded out the top five in 22:25.
Belgium placed three runners in the top 10 of the women’s race. Jana Van Lent finished fourth in 25:24, followed by Lisa Rooms in fifth at 25:34 and Chloé Herbiet in seventh at 25:43.
Spain put four men in the top 12 finishers. Abdessamad Oukhelfen placed sixth in 22:27, Aarón Las Heras finished ninth in 22:30, and Ilias Fifa took 12th in 22:38.
