The Marathon Project presented by HOKA is taking place this weekend at Wild Horse Pass Resort in Chandler, Arizona, with events planned from December 19 through Sunday, December 21, 2025. The three-day event included an expo, amateur races, and a professional marathon that organizers expect to challenge the course record.
Where To Watch Live Streaming?
Live streaming coverage of The Marathon Project professional race begins at 9:00 a.m. Eastern Standard Time on Flotrack. Fans can also follow live tracking through the Marathon Project app.
Athletes from 39 states and 17 countries registered to compete in the event. The professional marathon on Sunday will feature runners from the United States, Canada, Germany, Kenya, South Africa, and Ireland, all competing for prize money and the chance to set a new course record. The current course record is 2 hours, 8 minutes, and 59 seconds.
The Marathon Project was originally held in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. It provided professional athletes an opportunity to compete when most other races were canceled. After a break, the event returns in 2025 with an expanded format that includes races for both professional and amateur runners.
The event aims to help participants run as fast as possible by providing ideal racing conditions and support.
The men’s professional race on Sunday includes several notable athletes. Paul Chelimo from the United States is a two-time Olympic medalist in the 5,000 meters. Other competitors include Johannes Motschmann from Germany and Thomas Broatch from Canada, who won the Canadian marathon championship in 2023.
American runners JP Flavin, Nick Hauger, Dillon Maggard, and Brian Shrader are also expected to compete in the lead pack. International athletes include Nadeel Wildschutt from South Africa, Thomas Fafard from Canada, and Barry Keane from Ireland.
The organizers believe that Sunday’s race is supposed to be wide open, which would suggest that several athletes have a realistic chance of winning the top prize. The course record of 2:08:59 is expected to be challenged, though whether it will be broken remains to be seen.
