Top finishers from the Cross Internacional Juan Muguerza – a World Athletics Cross Country Tour Gold meeting – in the Spanish town of Elgoibar on Sunday (18). As expected, pre-race favorites Bahrain’s Winfred Yavi and Ethiopia’s Berihu Aregawi secured victories in their respective categories in dominating fashion.
Yavi, the Olympic 3000m steeplechase champion and 2023 world championships gold medalist, clinched her first win in the women’s race at the event over 7.62km, clocking 25:23 to beat Kenya’s Sheila Jebet, who was second with 26:29.

The top five finishers were completed by Tunisia’s Marwa Bouzayani, who was third with 26:49, Isabel Barreiro of Spain with 27:07, and Great Britain’s Lucy Jones with 27:08.
Ethiopia’s Olympic 10,000m silver medalist Berihu Aregawi won the men’s title for a third consecutive season after winning in 2024 and 2025. The 24-year-old, three-time world cross country championships runner-up and reigning world indoor 3000m silver medalist won the 9.707km race with a time of 29:33.
Aregawi defeated Saymon Amanuel of Eritrea, who clocked 29:40 for second place, and Spain’s Said Mechaal with 30:09.
