BOSTON, Massachusetts — Donavan Brazier and Bryce Hoppel will square off over 600 metres at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix on Saturday, Jan. 24, organizers said on Tuesday, setting up a marquee clash between two of the United States’ leading 800m runners at The TRACK at New Balance.
Brazier, the 2019 world 800m champion, is in the middle of a comeback after injuries wiped out his 2023 and 2024 seasons. He returned to top form to win the 800m at last year’s U.S. Championships in a lifetime best 1:42.16.
Hoppel arrives as the 2024 world indoor 800m champion and one of the event’s most consistent performers in recent seasons. He broke Brazier’s U.S. outdoor record with 1:41.67 for fourth in the 2024 Olympic final and has won seven national titles and collected two global medals.

The 600m distance, a common indoor test of speed and strength, offers a sharp early-season measure for two men who have set the American standard outdoors. Their meeting in Boston adds a major middle-distance storyline to a World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold stop that traditionally draws top global fields.
Ireland’s Cian McPhillips and Spain’s Mohamed Attaoui are also set to challenge. McPhillips lowered the Irish record with 1:42.15 for fourth at last year’s world 800m final, while Attaoui finished fifth over 800m at both the 2024 Olympics and the 2025 World Athletics Championships.
The meet will be shown live on NBC from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, Jan. 24. It is a founding member of the World Athletics Indoor Tour, which awards overall winners $10,000 and a guaranteed place at the 2026 World Athletics Indoor Championships in Kujawy Pomorze, Poland.
Other headliners include world champions Cordell Tinch and Anna Hall, who are both confirmed for the meeting, along with reigning world indoor long jump champion Claire Bryant and 2024 Olympic bronze medallist Jasmine Moore. The broader field also features Noah Lyles, Jake Wightman, Grant Fisher, Elle St. Pierre, Josh Hoey, Graham Blanks, Andrew Coscoran and Jessica Hull.
Now in its 31st year, the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix has hosted nine world records and 16 American records.
