Olympic champion Cole Hocker and Cooper Teare headline men’s 2000m at Hokie Invitational 2026

BLACKSBURG, Va. (Jan 22) – World and Olympic champion Cole Hocker and fellow American Cooper Teare headline the men’s 2000 metres at the Hokie Invitational in Blacksburg, Virginia, on Friday and Saturday (Jan. 23–24).

The meet marks the season opener for both Americans, who will line up against several collegiate runners in the rarely contested 2000m. Hocker, the 2024 Olympic 1500m champion, is coming off a standout 2025 campaign that included world gold in the 5000m at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo. He also claimed silver over 1500m at the 2024 World Indoor Championships, adding to his three NCAA titles.

The 24-year-old will reunite with his former University of Oregon teammate Teare, a two-time U.S. national champion and the 2021 NCAA 5000m gold medallist. Declan Rymer of VT Elite and Virginia Tech’s Ben Reynolds, Ethan Coleman, and Viktor Idhammar will challenge the professionals.

On the women’s side, Grace Boone of the USA and Pro Bike & Run returns to defend her title in the 1000m, while Ben Nagel of the USA is among the entrants for the men’s one-mile event.

The men’s 2000m event will open the track events on Friday’s first day at 5:00 pm, followed by the heats of the women’s and men’s 60m Hurdles and 60m dashes.
