HAMPTON, Va. — Bullis School standout Quincy Wilson moved to No. 11 on the world all-time list in the 500 meters Thursday night, clocking 1:00.56 at the 2026 VA Showcase to record the second-fastest time in high school history.

The University of Maryland commit and Olympian took control early and dominated the four-man field, finishing nearly two seconds ahead of his nearest competitor. Wilson’s time places him just 0.07 seconds behind the high school record of 1:00.49, set by Andrew Salvodon at the 2025 VA Showcase.

Wilson blazed through the opening 200 meters in 21.53 seconds before hitting 300m in 33.48 and 400m in 46.53. By that point, the senior had established a commanding lead and maintained his pace through the finish as spectators rose to their feet.

The performance will tie Wilson with Vladimir Prosin of the Soviet Union, who also ran 1:00.56 on Feb. 21, 1988, according to World Athletics statistics. Wilson now ranks as the ninth-fastest American in the event’s history.

Brian Herron sits second on the world all-time list at 59.87, posted Dec. 3, 2022, while Brycen Spratling (1:00.06 on Feb. 14, 2015), Vernon Norwood (1:00.11 on Feb. 11, 2017) and Ken Lowery (1:00.17 on Jan. 16, 1987) round out the top five American performers.

The 18-year-old Wilson continues to build an exceptional indoor resume. He holds the high school national record in the 400m at 45.66 and ranks No. 2 all-time in the 600m with 1:16.20. The sprinter also anchored national record-setting relay teams, including a 3:22.50 sprint medley relay and a 3:09.44 4x400m relay.

Salvodon, a Bayside, Virginia graduate now competing for South Carolina, remains the only other high schooler to break 1:01 in the 500m. Wilson surpassed Will Sumner, whose 1:01.25 previously ranked as the third-fastest prep performance.
