Results: Tamirat Tola Claims Doha Marathon Victory as Seven Men Break 2:10 Barrier

DOHA, Qatar — Olympic champion Tamirat Tola of Ethiopia captured the men’s title at the Doha Marathon on Friday, clocking 2:05:40 at the World Athletics Gold Label road race while seven runners dipped under the 2:10 mark.

Tola, the 2022 world champion who placed fifth at the London Marathon last year, held off multiple Ethiopian challengers to secure the victory on the Qatar course. Asefa Boki provided the closest competition, finishing 15 seconds behind in 2:05:55 as the only other athlete to break 2:06.

The race featured strong depth among East African runners. Boki Diriba recorded a personal best of 2:06:26 for third place, and Dinkalem Ayele also posted a personal best of 2:06:43 to claim fourth. Balew Yihunle rounded out the Ethiopian sweep of the top five with 2:07:07.

Oqbe Kibrom Ruesom of Eritrea finished sixth in 2:07:55, while Mulugeta Debasu of Ethiopia stopped the clock at 2:09:49 for seventh to complete the sub-2:10 group.

In the women’s race, Tigist Gezahagn of Ethiopia won in 2:21:14, improving her previous personal best of 2:22:47 set last year. The 25-year-old led an Ethiopian podium sweep as Tigist Girma placed second in 2:22:33 and Muluhabt Tsega took third in 2:23:21.

Kenya’s Amana Mursi Kipyatich finished fourth with a personal best of 2:23:43, while Roman Gidey of Ethiopia completed the top five in 2:25:29.
