FAYETTEVILLE, Arkansas (Feb 13 ) – Arkansas freshmen Abdoul Sy-Savane and Saira Prince both delivered lifetime bests to claim the men’s and women’s 60 metres hurdles titles at the 2026 Tyson Invitational at the Randal Tyson Track Center on Friday.
Sy-Savane, coming off a 7.68 at last weekend’s Wooo Pig Classic on the same track, led all qualifiers in 7.57 seconds before returning less than 90 minutes later to clock a personal best 7.55 and secure the title. His winning mark equalled the 15th-fastest time in the world this season and placed him fourth on the Arkansas all-time list.
The time also matched the ninth-fastest performance in the meet’s history, according to competition statistics.
“I’ve been trying my best to get out of the 7.60s,” Sy-Savane said after the race. “I’ve always wanted to touch 7.50s,” added the freshman, crediting his focus on running in his own lane for back-to-back sub-7.60 times.
LSU’s Jahiem Stern of Jamaica finished second with a season-best 7.67, while Wichita State’s Josh Parrish equalled his personal best of 7.70 for third. Sy-Savane’s teammate Karamoko Sacko, who ran 7.63 in the heats, placed eighth in the final.
On Arkansas’s all-time list, Sy-Savane now trails Olympic champion Omar McLeod (7.45) and Jamaican compatriots Vashaun Vascianna (7.52) and Phillip Lemonious (7.54).
In the women’s event, Saira Prince completed the Razorbacks’ hurdles double with a personal best of 8.13 seconds, moving to No. 11 on the program’s all-time rankings. Prince had earlier topped qualifying in 8.18, a then-career best, before trimming that time in the final.
LSU’s Salieci Myles of Jamaica ran a personal best 8.14 to finish second. Her teammate, Barbados’ Adeyah Brewster, clocked 8.25 to hold off Tennessee’s Skye Tolbert and Rice’s Júlía Kristín Jóhannesdóttir of Iceland, who were each credited with the same time.
The meeting continues on Friday with a loaded schedule, including the 60m, 400m, 800m, and championship sprint hurdles races, featuring the professional athletes.
